SSA Marine Mexico has added a Konecranes Gottwald mobile harbour crane (MHC) to its Multipurpose Terminal at the Port of Manzanillo, bringing the terminal’s mobile harbour crane fleet to eight.
The crane arrived in mid-October aboard a BBC Chartering heavy-lift vessel. The investment amounts to US$9.89m, according to the terminal operator.
The crane has a maximum lifting capacity of 100t, a structural height of 60m and a maximum outreach of 66m. SSA Marine the new crane is intended to give the terminal additional flexibility in handling the broad mix of cargo that moves through the facility, from general cargo and steel products to containers and heavy or oversized shipments.
The terminal occupies about 9 hectares and has 1,475 metres of waterspace, with water depths of up to 15m. Its facilities include a 7.5-hectare container yard with capacity for about 7,440 TEU, three 350-metre rail tracks and warehouses for general cargo and steel products. Alongside the eight MHCs, the terminal has 15 yard cranes, nine reach stackers, five side loaders, 46 trucks and 46 forklifts.
Aside from the Multipurpose Terminal at the Port of Manzanillo, SSA Marine also operates Terminal Especializada de Contenedores I (TEC I), a dedicated container terminal, and has a presence through OCUPA, a multipurpose terminal operator acquired in 2022.
