Seatrium bags five-vessel Karpowership conversion deal

Singapore-based offshore and marine engineering group Seatrium has secured a contract from Turkey’s Karpowership to convert and integrate five hydrogen-ready floating power plants.

The deal covers Karpowership’s third-generation Whale Class powerships, with Seatrium responsible for major conversion work, equipment integration, mechanical completion, and pre-commissioning.

Engineering activities are already underway, with the first vessel scheduled to arrive at Seatrium’s Tuas Boulevard yard in Singapore in December 2027. The contract’s financial details were not disclosed.

The Whale Class represents Karpowership’s largest floating power plant design, capable of delivering up to 600MW of electricity per vessel.

The ships will feature hydrogen-ready multi-fuel generation systems and integrated onboard substations, allowing them to connect directly to national electricity grids. Karpowership said the vessels could begin supplying electricity within 30 days of deployment.

The award follows a letter of intent signed in August 2025 covering three FSRU conversions and the potential integration of up to six new-generation powerships.

The two companies established their partnership in 2018, with Seatrium having since completed seven FSRU conversion projects for Karpowership.

The Singapore group also secured the eighth and ninth FSRU conversion projects earlier this year.
